I am interested in 3-D space depicted on the 2-D surface and how outside and inside spaces relate to each other. Also how figures - human & animal - are defined on the 2-D surface by their absence, such as by an animal skin, a scarecrow, or a shadow. Or conversely by their presence when a body is evident.
I am now making paintings of arms and legs and hands and feet where the body is more noticeable.
Pain inflicted on one part of the body affects the entire body. I come from South Africa where pain and suffering are part of everyday life. Although I have been in New Zealand for nearly five years I can not just forget my roots.
