GILLIAN MCMILLAN

Gillian was a student at Emily Carr College of Art & Design for 3 years, 1991 - 1994, and acquired her BFA in 1995. She was awarded the Robin Mayer Faculty Scholarship for her final year.

Those three years proved to be the most amazing, fun, exhausting time and have led to a fulfilling career in Ceramics. The two decades of pottery and teaching before that only made the time at Emily Carr more satisfying and effective.

Since then Gillian had a shared studio in Vancouver for two years and then was involved in the establishment of the Port Moody Arts Centre, working there as an artist-in-residence for three years. Now she has a comfortable, well-equipped studio in her own home.

She has worked in collaborations and on some public art, but mainly makes wheelthrown functional earthenware pieces. These days the jugbirds take most of her studio time, starting with a show 'Ornithikos' at the Gallery of BC Ceramics in September 2003. Her work can be seen at that gallery and at Circle Craft and Crafthouse, also on Granville Island, and the birds have flown far around the world.
